Examination Under Oath
What is Examination Under Oath?
Examination Under Oath (EUO) is a formal process in which an insurance company can investigate an insurance claim. During an EUO, the claimant, or anyone with knowledge of the claim, is placed under oath and asked questions by an attorney representing the insurer while in the presence of a court reporter. This is typically done when the insurer believes there is a potential for fraud or misrepresentation in the claim. The EUO is a tool for insurers to obtain information that may not be available through other means of investigation. The claimant is required to answer all questions truthfully or risk having their claim denied.
